Our mission is inspired by the work of Sister Jessy Alex of India where she began the first orphanage in the village of Samayapuram.
WE CARE is raising funds to expand this vision into the village of Changelput. In Changelput we plan to build a home for the orphaned children, housing for the sisters who care for them, and a training center for the local women to learn trade skills to help them out of poverty. WE CARE is also raising funds to help efforts at a local AIDS Hospice in Changelput as well as English learning programs in both villages where Pratheeksha Orphanages exist. We are in the process of building a base of talented volunteers from the United States to develop and expand our mission.

Sr. Jessy Alex has recently purchased a 4-acre piece of land in the village of Changelput. There are currently two sisters working the land to begin cultivating food to feed the future children we plan to house on this land.
With the help of Horizons Community Church and Project Hope, they have built a fence surrounding the land, a small shelter for the sisters, and ledge around the well to protect the children.
The next phase for this project is where WE CARE comes in. In 2007, we plan to have a proper home for the sisters and the women's training center on this land. In 2008, we hope to build the first girl's home with the first boy's home built in 2009. The girls and boys will be housed separately. Associated costs for these building projects are all inclusive - the building's interiors, exteriors, and all living necessities will be provided.

In the village of Changelput, there is a struggling AIDS Hospice. While in India, Director Julie Martin visited this hospice and was amazed at what she saw. Each morning, streams of people would come walking from the village center to the hospice which was several miles away. At the hospice they provide meals for AIDS victims who are outcasts in society and cannot easily get jobs. They also have a nurse on staff full-time to give proper medicine and tend to their needs. The hospice additionally provides housing to those in their final days. Some of the current needs at this hospice include:

WE CARE is in the planning stages to give the opportunity for all orphans to take English lessons during their summer break from school. The children are eager to learn the language. The ability to speak English will give them a great advantage in their society and opens up many new opportunities when it is time for them to find work.
To fulfill this current initiative, WE CARE needs sponsors who are interested in sending college students from the U.S. to India to teach English during the summer months at the orphanages we support. The American students will have their eyes opened to a world of service and cultural diversity, while the children bond with these students and learn the valuable tool of English.
The cost to send one student to India for the summer is $3500, which includes their plane ticket, visa, immunizations and housing while in India. WE CARE hopes to find enough sponsorship to send two students in the summer of 2007.
The primary way we have gained dedicated volunteers is through visionary trips. WE CARE is completely run by volunteers, so recruiting quality volunteers is vital to our development and sustainability. These trips are for individuals who are strongly educated about our programs and have a passionate desire to be a part of our team.
WE CARE hopes to pay for plane tickets to India for individuals who have an existing vision for how they can take our mission and bring it to the areas in which they live. The cost of each plane ticket is around $1500 and the ultimate goal would be to send four people in 2007 for a total of $6000.
We also need assistance to cover operating costs. We hope you will consider helping us with the following necessities!
